The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) is a not-for-profit trade group representing independently owned recorded music companies. A2IM is uniquely positioned in serving as a central voice for a diverse community of independent labels. A2IM operates within the United States focusing on government advocacy, education, and creating business opportunities for its community. Our membership comprises more than 600 record labels including Concord, Beggars Group, Epitaph, EMPIRE, Ninja Tune, GODMODE, MNRK, and Stones Throw as well as nearly 200 related music businesses such as Spotify, Discogs, and YouTube. A2IM represents members’ interests in the marketplace, in media and tech, on Capitol Hill, and as part of the global music community. A2IM focuses on government advocacy, education, and creating community through networking for its members.


A2IM is looking to expand its reach and support geographically and across genres. The Community Manager will focus on building, coalescing, and serving A2IM’s membership, particularly focusing on underrepresented communities, musical genres, and geographic locations. This will be achieved via programming and reach in different markets, including but not limited to organizing in-person socials and in-person and online educational events; organizing and developing A2IM’s member committees and task forces; expanding and managing special programs, manage and upkeep A2IM’s community channels including Slack and Discord and building a chapter network.

This role is equal parts strategic and organizational. The ideal candidate is a proactive and creative self-starter who will bring fresh ideas to further A2IM’s membership benefits and sponsorship opportunities, and who will engage and grow A2IM’s community. This is an outward facing role. The highest level of courteous customer service and efficient communication skills are imperative. The Community Manager will report directly to the general manager.


A2IM is open to applicants based in strategic markets particularly in the Nashville, Atlanta, Los Angeles or Miami metro areas. Employees are currently working remotely with an option to utilize A2IM’s NYC Lower East Side office. This role may eventually be required to be in an office up to 5 days per week. Attendance is required at A2IM flagship events in New York City each June.

Specific duties include, but are but not limited to, the following:

  • Identifying and acquiring qualified new members.
  • Designing and building programs for A2IM’s diverse membership across markets including, but not limited to, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Nashville, Seattle, Chicago and Miami.
  • Organizing and running regularly scheduled task forces, new councils, and accelerator programs, including creating fruitful agendas, minutes, and disseminating information.
  • Owning membership engagement on online community/communication platforms including Slack and Discord.
  • Planning and executing relevant educational webinars.
  • Creating educational one-sheets as needed.
  • Identifying, recruiting, and engaging A2IM members in aforementioned programs.
  • Working closely with the marketing department to schedule, promote, and develop promotional materials for aforementioned programs.
  • Identifying new member needs, target markets, task forces, and committees as needed, and working with senior team members on strategic activation plans.
  • Generating community insights that contribute to A2IM’s community growth.
  • Overseeing community standards and policies to ensure communities are inclusive and welcoming to a diverse community of label members and other partners.
  • Establishing and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs).

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in management and/or development of online communities.
  • Go-getter; assertive problem solver.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented.
  • Impeccable written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective prioritization, time, and project management skills.
  • Excellent facility with numbers and budgets.
  • Tech-savvy including use of computers, Slack, MS Office, Google suite, Discords and others.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Spanish language fluency is highly desirable.
  • Experience in managing and engaging online communities at scale.
  • Experience in developing and implementing community management strategies.
  • Experience in event planning, community outreach, and scalability.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and budget management.
  • Record label, management, non-profit or other relevant music industry experience is an asset.
  • Some content-creation skills are a plus.


This is a full-time role with a remote option. The company offers competitive compensation, health, dental and vision benefits, 401(k) with employer match, PTO, and respect for work-life balance. Travel, up to 35%, may be required. Base salary will be commensurate with the final hire’s relevant skills and experience as well as location and is anticipated at an annual rate in the range of $50,000 to $85,000.
