Lead Data Engineer

The artists on our platform decide for themselves how their hard-earned dollars flow - whether through splits to their collaborators, or to artist-friendly advances that scale their operations with no strings attached.

Our growing development team is seeking a Lead Data Engineer with solid professional experience in building and maintaining data warehouses and reporting environments. We are a collaborative and autonomous team and highly value good communication skills.

This role is full-time and fully remote, with occasional optional get-togethers in Los Angeles for which we cover travel/lodging for out-of-town employees.

What you'll do:

+ Oversee and maintain Stem’s data warehouse infrastructure, including systems, tools, and practices.

+ Design table structures and ETL strategy to build performant solutions that are reliable and scalable

+ Own the BI tooling for the analysts and stakeholders across the company to use

+ Partner with technical and non-technical colleagues to understand data and reporting requirements

+Partner with engineering teams to collect required data from internal and external systems

+ Emphasize clean lines between transactional data and analytical data

+ Quality control processes for all datasets. UAT plans and automated regression tests

+ Innovate new insights available in Stem datasets

+Document schemas for broader use within Stem

+ Occasional ad hoc analysis

+ Occasional SQL and ETL tuning

+ Develop dashboards and reporting using Periscope and other BI tooling

+ Over time, lead a team to share these duties

+ Use well-established industry technical patterns and architectures

+ Partner with engineering teams to identify, design and implement internal process improvements

+ Automate manual processes and optimize data delivery

+ Help independent musicians stay independent, by bringing fintech to music!

Our ideal candidate has:

+ Minimum of 5 years of software engineering and 3 years of data engineering experience 

+ Deep experience working with SQL databases

+ Experience setting up and managing data warehouses 

+ Solid understanding of data needs for business requirements

+ Excellent communication skills

+ Experience with one or more business intelligence tools (Periscope, Looker, etc.)

+ Familiarity with industry best practices

+ It's a bonus if you have:

+ Set up and built a data warehouse from scratch 

+ Experience with quality control/quality assurance processes for data

+ Music industry experience

+ Engineering leadership experience
