Record Label Distributor
Started in a Seattle basement apartment in 2001, Light In The Attic has since grown to become one of the most respected record labels among music aficionados and even those that aren’t — just seeing the Light in the Attic logo is enough. The label is known for its impeccable curatorial taste, meticulous archival process, and thoughtful liner notes penned by relevant critics and artistic luminaries. Among the label’s homegrown successes is Rodriguez, the reclusive singer-songwriter whose story was brought to worldwide acclaim in the Academy award-winning documentary Searching For Sugar Man. Light in the Attic reissued his albums years prior to the release of the film, eventually co-releasing the official soundtrack and going on tour with Rodriguez. For Light in the Attic, it was a reaffirmation that their approach to curating and contextualizing an artist’s story could work in a visual medium. The multi-Grammy nominated label has released over 300 titles worldwide, while the company prides themselves on quality restoration, gorgeous presentation, and respectfully archiving the artists’ work by involving them in the process whenever possible. Light In The Attic releases have been widely featured in major media outlets as The New York Times, NPR, 60 Minutes, The Guardian, Billboard, BBC, and Pitchfork, amongst others, and garnered “Reissue of the Year” in MOJO and Rolling Stone. In addition to the label’s acclaimed output, the company distributes over 75 record labels.
