Stem is looking for an analyst to join our Artist & Label Investment team who will be responsible for developing and deploying capital solutions for independent musicians. This role will be at the forefront of entertainment financing, shifting the paradigm of how artists can access growth capital while retaining ownership of their intellectual property.  

This person will work closely with our general manager, investment manager, and business intelligence team, learning the methodologies for valuing music and pricing advances. They will be assisting in diligence, contributing to process improvements, and tracking ongoing portfolio performance. This person will also gain exposure to the development of long-term artist financing and release strategies.

This role is full-time and fully remote, with occasional in-person get-togethers in Los Angeles for which we cover travel / lodging for out-of-town employees.

What You’ll Do:

x Analyze musicians’ streaming data across various digital service providers to estimate the value of their catalog

x Use historical streaming data to inform consumption and associated cash flow for future releases 

x Continuously assess streaming decay across genres 

x Independently underwrite new artist and label opportunities, for existing Stem clients, new catalog transfers and future releases

x Monitor the performance of each new signing to ensure i) new music is delivered and released on schedule; ii) rights holders have accepted splits; and iii) cash flow is being collected as projected 

x Identify ways to optimize our portfolio and individual deal models

x Take ownership of the underwriting process and improve it by advocating for and implementing new tools/data sources

x Assist our New Business team in explaining Stem’s advance model to artists and their management

x Work with the engineering team to assist in productizing advance disbursement, repayment, and tracking

x Help independent musicians stay independent, by bringing fintech to music!

Our ideal candidate has:

x 2-4 years of experience 

x A high level of discipline – able to execute sensitive processes repeatedly without errors

x Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

x Financial modeling skills, including an understanding of debt financing and IRR

x Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly and professionally present financing solutions to artist teams while building trust and rapport

It’s a bonus if you have:

x Basic SQL proficiency

x Experience with BI tools such as Periscope, Sisense for Cloud Data Teams, Looker, or Tableau

x Basic statistics proficiency

Salary Range:

The salary range for this job is $70K to $75K. This is a good faith effort at the time of posting. This range is base salary only and does not include equity, benefits, and any other compensatory components of the role.
