Position Overview
The successful candidate will utilize their in-depth knowledge of GAAP in diverse areas including revenue recognition, purchase accounting, foreign exchange, inventory valuation, and accounting for copyrights among others. The right hire will lead the month-end close process for both the Rights and Distribution Functions. In this role, they will supervise a team of accountants and collaborate closely with the Controller and other accounting leaders to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. They will be a highly organized and detail-oriented professional, with an ability to implement efficient processes and identify required internal controls.
The candidate will possess a solid work ethic, an ability to multi-task and prioritize, and have a strong desire to advance and expand their skillset as the company continues to grow. The candidate must excel at working in a team environment but is also able to take initiative and work independently. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to both work independently.
Reporting
The position reports to the Controller with certain direct reporting responsibilities to the Head of Accounting & Administration and will provide leadership to others on the accounting team.
Location
Continental United States, remote, with a preference for California, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, North Carolina or Tennessee.
Responsibilities
• Ensure the efficient and accurate reporting of the financial data in accordance with US GAAP for assigned accounts reported in the general ledger across Exceleration Music Partners, LLC and its subsidiaries.
• Supervise or perform all month-end closing procedures for assigned accounts (including, but not limited to – inventory, fixed assets, intangibles, accrued expenses, loans payable and intercompany accounts) ensuring that all accounts are reconciled accurately and on a timely basis.
• Develop, implement and maintain the internal systems and financial controls consistent with the Company’s policies and best practices.
• Understand update / document accounting process narratives as needed.
• Manage all general accounting functions related to receivables, accounts payables, cash disbursements, credit card and expense statement reporting, and related general ledger activity across Exceleration Music Partners and its subsidiaries.
• Approve all payables for payment and verify that they have been correctly input into Netsuite.
• Oversee/perform all transition/integration activities relating to acquired labels’ Inventory and Accounts Payable processes.
• Maintain and update monthly foreign exchange rate file for accounting team and royalty processing.
• Supervise or perform the filings of 1099/1042’s and sales tax returns across Exceleration Music Partners and its subsidiaries.
• Serve as primary liaison with Avalara, ensuring accurate collection and payment of GST/HST taxes in Canada.
• Work with external auditors to continuously improve the documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and controls (all in accordance with US GAAP).
• Work directly with external auditors related to questions, requests, and providing supporting documentation regarding assigned accounts.
• Support senior financial management with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA is a plus.
• Minimum of 3-4 years of progressive accounting experience , with 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Minimum of 2 years Public Accounting / Audit experience. A year or more of Music industry experience desired.
• Proficiency with accounting software and tools, including advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with NetSuite is highly desired, but not a requirement.
• Working knowledge of royalty accounting and other nuances of music industry finance and accounting is a plus, but not a requirement.
• Accurate data entry and attention to detail.
• Excellent leader and team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Organizational and time management skills to balance numerous and diverse tasks.
• Naturally curious, creative problem solver who can diagnose situations and is resourceful and collaborative about solutions.
• Ability to be effective and engaged in a remote work environment.
• Candidate must be accustomed to working under tight deadlines and getting things done.
• An affinity for indie music and the indie music culture is a huge plus.
Physical Requirements
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Compensation
A salary commensurate with relevant skills, experience and location at an annual rate in the range of $115,000-125,000, and competitive benefits will be offered to the successful hire. This is a full-time, exempt role.
