Financial Operations Manager

SMITHSONIAN FOLKWAYS SEEKS NEW FINANCIAL OPERATIONS MANAGER

Smithsonian Folkways Recordings is seeking an experienced finance and accounting professional to fill

the role of Financial Operations Manager. This role oversees an annual operating budget of over $3M

and ensures smooth financial operations for the nonprofit label as well as the Ralph Rinzler Folklife

Archives, both of which are situated within the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage at the

Smithsonian Institution. Ideal candidates have extensive knowledge of both the non-profit sector and

the music industry and can deftly navigate bureaucratic systems. The position is based in Washington,

DC and is not eligible for remote work.

Major duties:

- Overseeing the budget process for the label, including development and presentation of budgets to

and with Management and colleagues.

- Determines priorities for all fiscal activities.

- Manages and maintains NetSuite accounting system, including regular audits and reconciliation and

reporting to main Smithsonian accounting system.

- Assists Management in evaluating, planning, developing and implementing policy as it pertains to

finance and administrative issues.

- Oversees procurement process at the label, overseeing and providing recordkeeping for all financial

transactions.

- Liaises with multiple external Smithsonian offices to ensure smooth payments and financial

operations.

- Supervisory oversight of one employee managing manufacturing and inventory.

- Oversees various additional multifaceted administrative processes.


Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in accounting from accredited four-year college or university and/or 3-5 years

related experience.

- Ability to conduct financial analyses to forecast budget needs, identify trends, make predictions, and

evaluate financial information such as production costs, cost of goods sold, profit and loss, sales

history, royalty outlays and licensing revenue, and inventory.

- Expert knowledge of the regulations, procedures, principles, concepts and practices governing

budgeting, accounting and procurement to effectively manage an organization's financial programs

and activities.

- Expert knowledge of NetSuite cloud business software.

- Knowledge of both the legal requirements and standard practices of artist royalties, mechanical

royalties, licensing, manufacture and tracking of music product inventory, and music distribution to

develop and apply financial management techniques and methodologies.

- Excellent communication skills to ensure complex financial situations can be clearly understood by a

diverse group of colleagues.

- Knowledge and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.

- Prior management experience a plus.


Salary: The annual salary is based on the GS-12 level of the federal General Schedule (GS) pay system

with a salary range of $99,200 to $105,812.
