Marketing Manager, The Psychic Hotline

The Company

Psychic Hotline is an artist-run recording company based in Durham, NC, founded by Amelia Meath & Nick Sanborn of Sylvan Esso alongside their longtime manager, Martin Anderson. Working with Secretly Distribution and Kris Chen (Nonesuch, XL, Domino), the company seeks to both create new works and reissue classic albums from their ever-expanding musical community. Led by the artist perspective, Psychic Hotline’s aim is to make the process of creating and releasing albums accessible to those who make them, an ethos which is reflected in the label’s radically artist-forward dealmaking, creative support, and innovative marketing approaches.


Position Summary

The role of the Marketing Manager is to run point on marketing initiatives to ensure the success of projects, with a focus on maintaining the creative integrity of the source material and driving revenue for each project.


The role will be based in Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia or North Carolina (Durham or Asheville.)  This full-time position reports to the Label Manager.


Specific Responsibilities

    Develop marketing strategies as well as robust marketing plans in coordination with internal Label, Creative, Marketing, Production and Licensing teams.

    Develop and execute marketing plans.

    Create new business opportunities for releases by leveraging both traditional and new marketing channels including digital, retail, press, radio, branding, creative partnerships, social media, etc. 

    Create and maintain marketing materials including one-sheets, pitch decks, promo alcoves, etc., while ensuring fidelity to the creative integrity of the source materials through excellent writing and adherence to aesthetic styles.

    In collaboration with the Label Manager/PM leading each project or campaign, coordinate marketing efforts with external teams including artists, managers, publicists, radio, distribution, sync teams, etc.

    Working with the Label Manager/PM, create and maintain reporting resources and updates including Everything Docs, regular team-wide Marketing Updates per active project, etc.

    Proactively reach out to Digital Service Providers, cultivating and maintaining direct relationships with a deep set of key contacts at all DSPs (Spotify, Apple, Amazon, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, etc.)

    Cultivate and maintain relationships with key radio stations, programmers, pluggers, etc.

    Drive Direct Store outreach, cultivate relationships with key stores, and create and maintain an opt-in retail newsletter.

    Working with the Label Manager, the Label Coordinator, and the Direct Sales Coordinator, participate in D2C sales strategy and execution including making and managing a calendar for regular D2C sales, newsletter content and timing, and sales analysis.

    Maintain company social media accounts and communities including newsletters, websites, Discord, Reddit, etc.

    Work with Ownership and A&R on implementing internal creative marketing initiatives including creative newsletters, playlisting ecosystem, Nootropic, Direct Line, etc.

    Administer streaming, pre-order and sales reporting; pull available streaming and sales reports and track in a week-over-week documentation.


Qualifications

    Product management / music marketing experience with at least 5 years of progressive responsibility in a relevant sector of the music industry, including artist management, marketing agencies, music distributors, or artist partnership roles.  Experience dealing with emerging artists is preferred.

    Strong existing relationships with music promotional outlets, marketing partners, managers and agents; adept at creating and fostering new relationships across the ecosystem.

    Successful track record of interfacing across an organization including with promotions (DSP/streaming, radio and digital sales), marketing (graphics and publicity) and A&R administration (physical sales) and finance.

    Relationships with marketing and/or editorial contacts at the major DSPs is a plus.  

    Awareness of and affinity for the community and genres important to the label and their artists.

    Detail oriented and a strong communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Responsible, trustworthy, friendly and able to uphold the company principles at all times.

    Highest level of integrity, resourcefulness, resilience and work ethic. 

    Proficient in all basic office computer skills (e.g. email, Google suite, Excel, etc.).


Compensation

Competitive salary, incentive and benefits will be offered, commensurate with the role and the final hire’s experience.  Depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, network and location of the final hire, the base salary is anticipated at an annual rate in the range of $65K to $75K + benefits.
