Hopeless Records is an American independent record label headquartered in Van Nuys, California.  Founded by Louis Posen in 1993, the mission of Hopeless is to make a positive impact through music and art. Constantly adapting to the ever-fluctuating alternative music scene, the Hopeless roster has ranged across an increasingly diverse set of sounds and sub-genres including artists such as All Time Low, Avenged Sevenfold, Neck Deep, Sum 41, Waterparks, Taking Back Sunday, Illuminati Hotties, Destroy Boys, Scene Queen, Fame On Fire, Stand Atlantic, The Wonder Years, Sullivan King, and many more.


Beyond the Billboard top ten albums and millions of records sold, Hopeless is known for its charity and advocacy work.  Sub City, its charity arm, has raised over $3 million for more than 50 causes, while the Songs That Saved My Life series focuses specifically on mental health and suicide prevention.


Position Summary

The Senior Director Marketing & Product Management will report to the General Manager and will be responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of marketing campaigns for a portion of the artists on the Hopeless Records roster.  The role will be the key strategist on these campaigns with the goal of maximizing the artist’s sales & streams revenue, reach and reputation.  The main day-to-day point of contact for all the stakeholders involved - including the artists, managers, agents and PR teams, - the position will create, oversee and execute marketing plans & budgets and work with promotions, sales, international, and third-party teams to ensure success.  The Director will collaborate with the A&R and production teams to ensure on time delivery of album and marketing materials and will appropriately tap into the genre knowledge of Founder and President Louis Posen and others as necessary.  The position is full-time hybrid based in the Company’s headquarters office in Van Nuys, CA.  


Specific Responsibilities

    Working in concert with senior management, the position will create and implement world class global marketing campaigns for selected artists to drive artist reputation, audience acquisition and engagement, music discovery, and sales / streaming consumption.

    Lead and mentor a team of experienced product management professionals.

    Allocate and manage project marketing budgets.

    Lead the alignment of all elements of each campaign, interfacing with promotions, marketing, A&R admin, finance, international and other departments to ensure collaboration among departments and consistency of marketing, creative and communications elements for each project.

    Use and understand data analytics to make strategic and data-driven decisions.

    Be seen as an approachable marketing partner by Hopeless Records’ external artists, managers, labels, social media and DSP partners. 

    Establish, track and report on success and learning metrics for each marketing project or campaign to create continuous improvement and increasing impactful campaigns in support of artists on the Hopeless Records roster. 


Qualifications

    Product management / music marketing expert with at least 8 years of progressive responsibility in a relevant sector of the music industry, including artist management, marketing agencies, music distributors, or artist partnership roles.  Experience dealing with alternative artists is preferred.

    Strong existing relationships with alternative music promotional outlets, marketing partners, managers and agents; adept at creating and fostering new relationships across the ecosystem.

    Successful track record of interfacing across an organization including with promotions (DSP/streaming, radio and digital sales), marketing (graphics and publicity) and A&R administration (physical sales) and finance.

    Relationships with marketing and/or editorial contacts at the major DSPs is a plus.  

    Awareness of and affinity for the community and genres important to Hopeless Records and their artists.

    Detail oriented and a strong communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Track record of leading and mentoring other marketing and product management staff.

    Responsible, trustworthy, friendly and able to uphold the Hopeless company principles at all times.

    Highest level of integrity, resourcefulness, resilience and work ethic. 

    Proficient in all basic office computer skills (e.g. email, Google suite, Excel, etc.).


Compensation

Competitive salary, incentive and benefits will be offered, commensurate with the role and the final hire’s experience.  Depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, network and location of the final hire, the base salary is anticipated at an annual rate in the range of $80K to $100K.
